Poormans Hill made a winning debut for trainer Gordon Elliott at Downpatrick today when routing his rivals in the Molson Coors Handicap Chase, to provide jockey Jack Kennedy with a double on the day.
Kennedy’s earlier winner was on the Adrian Murray trained Charms Bracelet and came at the expense of Elliott’s runner-up Pinotage but made up to his employer Elliott when steering Poormans Hill to a comprehensive win.
Elliott later commented “he did it well, should win again and had been working well at home.
“It was by accident I got him - Tom Malone bought him and he was for someone else but it fell through and he mentioned him to me, and it worked out great.
"He's in Sligo (handicap chase) during the week and should win off 86 over hurdles as well.
"It's grand to get a winner; we were after getting three seconds so you start to get a bit anxious."
