After getting married on Saturday Harry Kelly and Gemma O'Mahoney (owner) received a nice wedding present at Cork today as their Davids Jewel took the opening Follow Us On Twitter Mares Maiden Hurdle.
Having finished a good second at Gowran in June the daughter of King's Theatre disappointed last time out at Killarney when sent off favourite.
Dropped in trip to two miles today she was settled in second by Sean Flanagan.
She was ridden after three out and got to the front before the last, keeping on well on the run-in to score by three and a quarter lengths. Hard Fought (8/1), who attempted to make all, had to settle for second under Mark Enright for Eddie Hales while Lenora (6/1) was a further three and a half lengths back in third under Paul Townend for Edmond Kent. Edith Somerville was sent off the 3/1 favourite but she could only manage a disappointing fifth under Davy Russell for Sabrina Harty.
The winner was 9/2 last night with Paddy Power but opened on-course at 9/1 before going off at 8's.
Harry Kelly said afterwards: "That worked out great as she wasn't herself the last day.
"She can be quite keen but settles better in two mile races when they go quicker."
