Jackson sidelined with broken foot

Former champion conditional rider Shane Jackson is facing a spell on the sidelines after fracturing his left foot in two places in an accident when riding out last weekend.

Jackson was riding out for Ross O'Sullivan on Saturday morning when taking the fall and fears he could now be out of action for two months.

“I broke my left foot in two places and have also tore ligaments. It has swelled quite a bit, and I have to go back to Naas Hospital on January 16 to get a proper cast on.

“At best I'll be out for six weeks so hopefully the healing process will go well,” said Jackson.

The Baltinglass native, top claiming rider in the 2007/08 season with 25 winners, was also part of the Irish jump jockey team that travelled to Australia in 2008.
