Irish still on top in Oz

Denis O´Regan rode his first winner in Australia when successful aboard Mina Kova at Warrnambool earlier today.

The Galway Plate winning rider came from well off the pace on the mare to win by a length and a half. The runner-up wasn´t a points earner due to late scratchings which resulted in both Andrew McNamara and Tom Ryan without rides.

However Bobby Molly finished fourth on favourite Nancy Boy and the intricacies of the scoring system saw the Irish team emerge with 18 points.

On heavy ground there were just five runners in the chase, Bobby Molloy rode Pyramid Park but this 11/10 chance was reluctant to go to the start and eventually trailed in last of the four finishers behind Dannuccio, ridden by Australian Paul Hamblin.

The winner wasn´t eligible to earn points and Tom Ryan, beaten five lengths into second place on 5/1 shot Lazza, scooped the maximum.

After six races the Irish team lead 78 points to 50. The Irish team will spent the night in Warrnambool, and then move on to Moe tomorrow morning.
