Hogan lands first training double Denis Hogan registered his first double as a trainer when partnering Missie Ella to a hard fought victory in the Littleton Handicap Hurdle at Thurles. The well backed 11/2 shot (8/1 in morning) raced prominently on the rail in the three-miler as the lead swapped several times during the contest. Leggy Lad pulled his way into the lead five out but was tackled turning for home by Missie Ella. Hogan drove his charge into the lead before the final flight but War Correspondent stayed on to be a danger at the last. The Gigginstown horse pressed the eventual winner hard on the run-in. Missie Ella drifted slightly right but held on for a half length. “She drifted across for a bit of company and it helped her across the line,” said Hogan. “She had a hard race there and will get a break – she's a chaser in the making. “One of owners, Tony O'Brien's wife died before Christmas and he missed seeing her win. I'm delighted for him.” Hogan had also trained Luke's Benefit to win earlier but the gelding had been partnered by Brian Cawley. Zekarya was sent off 5/1 favourite in an open heat and finished fifth.
