High Way Hunter pops the last at Sligo© Photo Healy Racing
20/1 outsider High Way Hunter served up a shock in the closing three mile maiden hurdle at Sligo for trainer Colin Bowe and jockey Sean Flanagan.
Although this was her debut over hurdles she had eight starts in point-to-points with her solitary win coming at Ballingarry in June last year. The six-year-old hadn’t run since April this year when coming in fifth at Borris House.
She went into the lead coming off the home bend before the last fence and beat Kildunne (4/1) by a length and a quarter. Notimetoserve 3/1 joint favourite was third. The other 3/1 joint favourite was Katys Girl and she finished fifth.
Colin Bowe said: “It wasn’t a classy race. I only have her two months, but the trip is the key to her. She’ll jump a fence and probably go for a mares beginners chase.”
