Hennessy The Highlight On A Cracking Leopardstown Card

The Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup is one of the highlights of the racing year, and eight go to post for the three miles chase including the first two in last season?s memorable renewal, Beef Or Salmon and The Listener.

The Listener, a previous course and distance winner in the Lexus Chase, was a clear leader over the last but eventually caught in the final strides by the tenacious Beef Or Salmon.

The Alner-trained grey relishes soft ground and is again in good form this term having readily won the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown before being placed behind hot-pot Denman in the ?Lexus?.

The decision to step Nickname up to this trip adds further spice to a fascinating contest, while Grand National favourite Snowy Morning is also in the line-up.

There are three Grade 1 races on the afternoon, with the Dr P J Moriarty Novice Chase attracting a field of seven runners. J?y Vole has been ultra impressive in two recent runaway wins at Cork and Gowran Park, and can complete a hat-trick at the main expense of Thyne Again and Sky?s The Limit.

The Deloitte Novice Hurdle is the other Grade 1 on the card, and Whatuthink is taken to confirm previous course placings with Forpadytheplasterer and Cork All Star. The Oliver McKiernan-trained gelding stayed on strongly from the last on that occasion, and should be well suited by this extra quarter mile.

is extra quarter mile.
