Light Heidi leads over the last© Photo Healy Racing
Light Heidi justified favouritism when opening her account in the first division of the Newcastlewest Handicap Hurdle at Limerick.
The Matthew Smith-trained mare went to post the 9/2 market leader after a fine run to finish third on her last outing at Naas.
Bryan Cooper produced his mount to lead, travelling well, turning for home today and she found plenty when asked for an effort.
The Leading Light filly saw off the attentions of Getaway Shivvie in the closing stages to score by a length.
Cooper said afterwards:- "I was worried about the two miles the last day and when I got off her I said 'where ever she goes, don't jock me off her because she'll win'.
“Going up in trip was a big help on that ground and she lacked a bit of experience the last day.
"She was careful early doors but when I got out into a bit of room, she jumped well and I was always comfortable.
"She is a good fun mare and will jump a fence for the lads in time."
