Racegoers across the border are well-familiar with Golan Guy at this stage and he followed up his Down Royal success in the Ulster Cesarewitch 12 days ago by getting off the mark on his initial attempt over fences in the Moy Park Beginners Chase at Downpatrick.
Barry Geraghty rode Golan Guy for owner, Seamus Fitzpatrick, a committee member at Bellewstown, and the six-year-old led before two out. The very easy to back Tony Martin runner really decided to run in the latter stages and he went away to slam Definite All Star by seven and a half lengths.
Fitzpatrick, originally from Warrenpoint, is master with the Ward Union Hunt as well as his duties at Bellewstown. He actually bought Golan Guy when at the races on the Hill of Crockafotha.
He said: "He's won two nice pots now and he has been a lucky horse for me. I want to ride him myself now in a charity race at Cheltenham in November. It's for a good cause – a cancer charity."
Meanwhile Tony Martin said: "Barry (Geraghty) schooled him the other morning and he jumped well but you never really know until they do it in a race.
"It's a bit like a football team going out on to a pitch, it's then when they can bottle it. I'm very happy with the way things went there."
