Flicker Of Hope justified good support in division two of the Download The New Tote App Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel.

The Mark Fahey-trained gelding, who showed promise on his handicap debut in testing ground at Limerick last month, was available at 11/2 overnight and was sent off the 5/2 favourite in this 2m3f event.

Aidan Kelly ’s mount and Tingarran Express were in the air together at the final flight and the five-year-old proved the stronger on the run-in to score by a length and a quarter.

The pair pulled 12 lengths clear of Shesabreeze in third.

Fahey said, “He’s done it well. He came off the bridle a bit green coming down the hill but he battled back well coming up the hill and his jumping was much better today.

“Aidan said he was completely different over that style of hurdle and is something to look forward to.

“The ground has opened up a bit after a few showers and is lovely and safe. He’s a nice horse for the summer but just wouldn’t want to run him on too quick a ground.”
