Empresario proved a tough nut as he repelled all comers down the straight in the claimer at Gowran Park.
Billy Lee soon found himself in front in the nine-and-a-half furlong contest but his mount was strongly pressed early in the straight.
3/1 favourite Quote Of The Day challenged over two furlongs out but cried enough before the furlong pole. Lord Jim and Gun Shoot pressed hard in the closing stages but couldn't peg back the front-runner.
The David Wachman-trained winner did come across Lord Jim close home as Gun Shoot just edged the verdict for second.
Empresario, who was sent off 8/1, had just lost out on his sole start last year and only returned to action at Killarney last month when well held in fifth.
"He's a big horse and he still has to fill into his frame," said Lee afterwards.
"I got left in front and he was only just doing enough - I fell he had loads left in the tank. I think he's improving and he's one to look forward to."
The winner is owned by Alma Hourigan, wife of former trainer Ger.
Liam O'Kelly subsequently claimed Empresario for €25,000. He is well known as the owner of the Denis Hogan-trained horses Inis Meains and Kalellshan. Coco Bella who trailed in last, was claimed for €10,000 by Kate Deegan, wife of trainer Paul.
