The rare feat of saddling the first three finishers is normally the preserve of Aidan O’Brien but a trio from the Harry Rogers yard dominated the Inter Vintners Pub Challenge Race Nite Handicap as Elusive Express just edged out her two stablemates.
Arguably the first time a trainer has achieved this in a 47-65 handicap, Elusive Express just prevailed from Lily's Star and Byron Beauty in a finish of short-heads.
Lily’s Star (6/1) looked set to land the mile event when striking the front a furlong out but the always prominent Elusive Express would not give in and battled back for Pat Smullen on the far rail.
The 8/1 chance had just a short-head to spare at the line, with Rogers’ other runner Byron Beauty (16/1) finishing best of all the same distance away in third.
Rogers said, “It’s very hard to win these races and I suppose it’s just a pity that they weren’t able to divide with eight races already on the card.
“Lily’s Star was a bit unlucky as she was in front a bit soon but the winner was tough, and the third also ran very well.
“Elusive Express and Lily’s Star could run again at Roscommon on Monday.”
A few euro went astray when Dancingwithangels backed on track from 10/1 into 7/1, reared as the stalls opened and parted company with Billy Lee.
