Do Try Dolly came out on the right side of a driving finish with Disputed in the extended two mile three handicap hurdle at Kilbeggan.
The seven-year-old mare, with Jack Kennedy in the plate, raced into the lead at the third last. Disputed and Bryan Cooper moved into a close second to track her approaching the home turn. The latter switched to the inside rail on the run to the second last hurdle.
Do Try Dolly held a narrow advantage upon landing but that was yielded as the pair jumped the last. Both jockeys asked for more on the run-in as the whips were drawn, however, it was Do Try Dolly who was in the right place on the line to get the verdict by a short head.
She was returned the 10/3 favourite for Paul Fahey and was following up on a two mile maiden hurdle victory at this track at the end of May. Disputed was well punted in the on course market from 7/1 to 5/1 but had to settle for a runner-up prize. Cnoc Na Sioga (25/1) and Seeyouallincoppers (4/1) took third and fourth in this 16-runner contest.
Paul Fahey said: "She got a great ride the last day. The 7lbs made the difference today. He's a helluva good rider. She was hanging, that's why he couldn't get to the rail.
"She's still a novice and could go for a mares' novice down the line. She could surprise in one.
"The New Booleigh Deere Syndicate are farm machinery contractors. They'll be busy during Galway so she might go to Listowel instead."
It was reported that Luke Dempsey suffered concussion and a possible fracture to his left collarbone, after his heavy fall from Master Appeal
