Dandyleekie stuck his head out gamely in the closing stages to make a winning debut in the Requinto Maiden at Navan. Araner was sent off the 8/11 favourite in the five-furlong contest and looked set to collect, a furlong out, after making the running.

Ger Lyons' debutant chased down the hotpot inside the final furlong, however, and got up at the death to gain a head victory under Gary Carroll.

"His work was always good but I wasn't sure about running him as he was very weak," said Lyons.

"We decided to run and come to Navan as it would give him a nice experience and we could build for the season from here.

"We always thought he had ability. He's on the team for Ascot. Gary said he's still weak but it's a nice option to have.

"He handled that ground well. Gary was lucky not to get unseated going down as he jammed on at the ponies (giving rides to kids).

"He's still very very green and there should be masses of improvement. It bodes well for what we have at home."
