Division two of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden saw Killarney specialist John Murphy strike with 22/1 chance Turbulence much to the delight of the Cork trainer’s many followers at the Kerry venue.
We hadn’t seen the winner of the first split of this mile contest, Disco Boots since November, and coincidentally enough Turbulence (gelded in the interim) was last seen in public on the same winter afternoon at the Curragh.
Here and three and three parts of a length split the first seven home, with many holding chances until late on.
However, in the hands of Robbie Colgan, the successful Night Of Thunder gelding was strong inside the last to account for fellow outsider Great Realisation by a length and a half.
Market-leader, Ballydoyle’s Handel was three parts of a length back in third.
"He is a lovely, tall, big, strong and very good looking horse and we gave him plenty of time. He had a very good run on his last run as a three year old and is from a good pedigree,” said Murphy’s son George.
"He'll keep improving and is one to look forward to - we might look at a winners' race next."
D. McMonagle, rider of Oneofararekind trained by Michael J. Browne, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was pulled up in the straight having lost his action.
