Ask Cory held the late charge of Goodnighntgodbless to claims the spoils in the Toals Bookmakers Handicap Chase at Downpatrick.

Sean Flanagan produced his mount to lead going to the second last in the two-mile-seven contest and he pecked slightly at the back of that fence.

The Henry de Bromhead-trained Ask gelding galloped on well in the closing stages and held on in the closing stages for a half length success at odds of 6/1.

The winner was making his first start since finishing well beaten at Thurles in December.

Flanagan said: "All he did at two out was over jump a little bit; he's a big, old, scopey horse and the track was a little bit tight for him. I was outpaced for most of the way but he is a very strong stayer and he has done the best of his work at the end.

"He won a beginners' in Killarney and it looked like quite a competitive beginners'. I think the bigger step up in trip the better and a more flat, galloping track will suit him better. Here is a lot different to Killarney."
