Coppers have something to celebrate Seeyouallincoppers justified good support when claiming the two-and-a-half mile handicap hurdle at Cork under Jack Kennedy. Gordon Elliott's charge traded as big as 9/2 this morning but was sent to post the 2/1 favourite. Kennedy settled his mount mid-division before taking closer order four home home. He was driven into contention after the third last and got on top before the final flight to record a three-and-three-quarter length success over 40/1 shot Il Fenomeno. The winners only previous success had come in a three-year-old maiden hurdle at Roscommon in August 2013. He had finished a staying on fourth behind Elusive Ivy at Punchestown on his most recent outing. Ollie Murphy, assistant to Elliott, said: "He's very consistent and very genuine. You might not think it from his form figures but he gives his best all the time. "He got into a bit of trouble at Punchestown the last day, and I'd say two and a half miles on this ground is his trip. He's quite ground dependent, and a fun horse for the summer. "He jumps well and I don't see why he can't win another over hurdles before he goes over fences. "The syndicate are a group of Guards. Three of them are here and the other 14 are in Coppers (Copper Faced Jacks) for a retirement party tonight." (Quotes by Alan Magee)
