Bumbasina opens account in Gowran opener Bumbasina stuck on gamely to open her account, on her seasonal reappearance, in the opening mile maiden at Gowran Park this afternoon. The Willie McCreery-trained filly had shown promise on her sole outing as a juvenile last term when finishing mid-division in a Curragh maiden. She was sent to post a 5/1 shot on her return and tracked the leaders under Billy Lee. Front-runner Treaty Of Vienna looked to have his rivals on the stretch passing the two pole but Bumbasina wore down her rival inside the final furlong for a half length success. 15/8 favourite Frima stayed on to take third, another half a length further back. "She ran a lovely race last year. I thought the ground might be a little bit gone for her, she is as lazy as hell,” said McCreery. “If she turns out as good as her half-sister (Dolce Strega) she will be doing okay. She has a good way of going and she is very honest. “She just realised what she was doing in the last 100 yards, and I liked the way she stuck her head down and galloped on to the line. “We will try and find a bit of black-type for her somewhere or we might go for a winners of one or a fillies race. I might give her a bit more experience. “She did nothing last year in that run and it was a big learning curve. I wouldn't like to over-faze her straight away." (Quotes by Donal Murphy)
