Bonbon Au Miel led home a clean sweep for Willie Mullins in the beginners chase at Navan this afternoon. Turcagua was the best backed of the Closutton trio and went off 5/4 favourite. The grey made the running but was pressed throughout by the eventual winner.
David Mullins sent Bonbon Au Miel to the front jumping the fifth last and he had his rivals at work jumping the penultimate fence.
A fine leap at the final fence propelled him to a 11-length success over Turcagua while the other Mullins runner Cadmium finished 28 lengths back in third.
The winner was producing an improved showing having been well beaten when fourth on his chase debut at Fairyhouse last month.
“It’s getting so late in the season that I wanted to get a few horses out,” said Mullins.
“The experience that Bonbon Au Miel had from the last day was a help and the ground suited him.
“Turcagua ran well and jumped great and he could go into a Graded chase now with that run under his belt. Cadmium jumped way better than I expected and I hope that he’ll have no trouble with his beginners.
“The late rain that we had probably made the ground a bit looser and it’s fresh so it gave them a chance.
“Bonbon Au Miel will be going up in trip rather than back, and may come back here next month for the (Grade 2 Ten Up) three-mile novice chase (February 18).”
