Bear Story was another well backed favourite to do the business at Dundalk when claiming the mile maiden.

Michael Halford 's charge went to post an even-money shot having been backed form 9/4 this morning.

The Kodiac colt had been runner-up over course and distance three weeks ago and went one better this time.

Ronan Whelan produced his mount to challenge two furlongs out and he got his head in front passing the furlong pole.

He galloped on strongly in the closing stages to record a length-and-a-half verdict over Lincoln Hawk

“He's a smashing big horse. He's still a bit raw, a bit of a baby, but he loves that surface and a mile is a good trip for him,” said Halford.

“We'll probably put him away now and he'll be a grand horse next year.

“His form entitled him to have every chance and it's nice to get it done with him.

“They went a good even gallop which suited him as he's a horse that just likes to go asleep and have something to aim at.

“He was a bit lonely then when he got to the front. He did it well and I'm delighted for his owner/breeder Johnny Connaughton who has a couple of horses with us. We had another winner recently for him with Eagle's Flight.

“He's a great man, he always keeps a few in training, and it's nice to see him get rewarded with a couple of nice horses.

“You'd be very grateful to all those owners this year as they've not been able to go and see their horses. Full credit to all the owners for supporting us and encouraging us to keep going.”
