Bat proves Masterful under O'Donoghue Bat Masterson ran out a convincing winner of the C&F Green Energy Handicap at Roscommon under Colm O'Donoghue. Noel Meade's charge was produced to lead a furlong-and-a-half from home and soon settled matters. The Alhaarth gelding strode clear inside the final furlong to post a three-length verdict over Music On D Waters. The winner had attracted some support this morning (16/1 into 10/1) and there was also a few quid for him on course as he was sent off a 7/1 shot. Bat Masterson is owned by the Roscommon based Queen Maeve Racing Club and there was big crowd to greet him in the winners' enclosure. "The longer trip helped him and I'd say he's improved a bit," said Meade. "He was bought out of Darley and was a late foal so he's only starting to improve now. "He wants that mile-and-a-half and I would even say a mile-and-six would suit."
