Shay Barry is hoping to secure some Galway Festival success during his first year with a licence with both Mozetta and Kalanisi King fancied to go well on the penultimate day of the week-long Ballybrit meeting.
The County Waterford-based trainer enjoyed an excellent career in the saddle, partnering a host of big-race winners including the likes of Justified, Rathgar Beau and Holy Orders before he hung up his riding boots late last year.
Barry's only winner to date as a trainer is Sligo bumper scorer Cracked Rear View, a horse who was subsequently sold to join Donald McCain for £130,000, but he is hopeful of adding to his tally in the coming weeks.
Mozetta has been placed on each of her three starts to date and aims to break her duck in the Ladbrokes Red Day EBF Fillies Maiden.
Kalanisi King finished sixth on his only previous appearance in a Leopardstown bumper in late January, but Barry is anticipating a bold show in the Ladbrokes Top Treble INH Flat Race.
He said: "Mozetta is a lovely filly and she'l like the good ground. The ground was a bit too soft for her the last day in Leopardstown, but she still ran well.
"It looks a hot maiden, but our filly should handle the track and I'm sure she'll run her race.
"He (Kalanisi King) ran well in Leopardstown the first day. He just got a bit tired in the straight.
"He got sick after that and had to have some time off, but he's been back in training for seven or eight weeks and he's been working well.
"There are one or two horses in there that have been placed, but ours is a nice horse and I'd be expecting him to be in the money.
"Kalanisi King was my first runner and hopefully we have a few nice horses, a few two-year-olds and some older horses, hopefully a good mix.
"Training is a lot tougher than riding. When I was riding you could just jump off them and walk away, but I'm enjoying it all the same."
