Jockey Ray Barron has had a festival to remember recording his third success of the week when guiding My Design to an all the way win in the Kenny Galway Handicap Hurdle.
Just over half an hour after Teed Up whom Barron partnered to win the Connacht Hotel(Q.R.)Handicap on Monday night, won for the second time at this years festival, the Limerick jockey visited the winners' enclosure for a third time this week.
Also successful on the well backed bumper winner Fortunate Lighting on Saturday, Barron made all the running on the Declan Queally trained My Design.
Having fought off all challenges on the run to two out, the eight-year-old mare had to be brave to hold the late burst of the well supported Call The Tune
Declan Queally said: “Ray’s 7lb made a difference and she’s tough. Ray built a bond with her quickly and he used her jumping. She’s not the simplest of jumpers but she found and she delivered for him.
“I was disappointed that we didn’t get into the big handicap yesterday as she would have had 10st4lb and I didn’t like the idea of carrying topweight around here but we said we’d take out chance.
“It’s great for the owners who bred her also. They tried to cover her earlier in the year and she didn’t go in foal.
“We’ll try and get some winning black type with her if we can.”
