Balmont cosy winner of Dundalk opener

Balmont Mast made it back to back victories when running out an impressive winner of the opening five-furlong handicap at Dundalk.

Johnny Murtagh produced the 11/4 favourite with a strong run to hit the front at the furlong pole.

The gelding stormed clear inside the final furlong to post a three-and-a-half length victory over Primalova

The winner had opened his account at Navan last time and getting his head in front seems to have made all the difference to the son of Balmont.

"He was impressive. I've been preaching about how good I thought he was for a long time and looking stupid but he's finally coming right," said Lynam.

"Johnny said he might be up to carrying a 5lb penalty."
