Bostons Angel will wear cheek pieces for the first time in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown on Sunday.

Last season's RSA Chase winner has raced just twice this season, exiting five out in the JNWine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal and then putting up a lifeless performance when third at Sandown.

The Jessica Harrington-trained eight-year-old gelding missed the Lexus Chase at Leopardstown's Christmas meeting but the Moone handler is hopeful of a big performance on Sunday.

She said, "He worked yesterday and I was happy with him. He was just not 100% at Christmas, like alot of my horses, but he's in good form now.

"Things have just not gone right for him this year. He fell (at Down Royal) and then ran terrible at Sandown for whatever reason."

Harrington tweeted this morning: "Bostons Angel schooled excellent with check pieces on this morning. Full steam ahead for the Hennessy on Sunday."
