Angel Island brings up Stack/Hayes double Angel Island showed plenty of ability on debut when powering home to take the fillies' maiden in Cork. Her victory gave trainer Fozzy Stack and jockey Chris Hayes a double on the card as they had successfully teamed up earlier with Son Of Rest. Angel Island travelled in fifth approaching the home straight and improved into third over a quarter of a mile from home. Hayes soon got into the drive position and his mount came to tackle Dabulena outside the furlong pole. She readily swept past that rival and galloped on to score by two lengths at Burlington Bertie 100/30. Fozzy Stack said: "She had been working well all spring and likes that ground. "She had been with David Wachman last season and he hadn't done much with her as she's a big filly." "She'll have no problem getting an extra furlong or two and will go for the Listed Salsabil Stakes at Navan next." Runner-up Dabulena was cold in the market having been 11/10 this morning. She went off at 3/1 having drifted out to as big as 4/1 on track. Set In Stone was prominent for a long way but couldn't go with the principals in the final furlong and had to settle for third at 7/1. Additional reporting by Thomas Weekes
