The odds on Along Came Casey took a dramatic tumble from 5/1 (the first offer of a couple of firms) into 6/4 for the Next Meeting at Gowran October 5th & 6th Handicap. Those involved in the plunge were counting their winnings from a fair way out.
Drawn in three, Pat Smullen made use of his positioning near the fence on the Oratorio filly. She was always 'on the pace' and when in front up the straight she was simply toying with the opposition.
The pretty lightly raced and obviously improving four-year-old eventually saw off Cheval Rouge by an unflattering four and a quarter lengths.
Dermot Weld trains Along Came Casey for his mother Gita.
Along Came Casey was registering the second win of her life here and both have come over Gowran's extended mile and one.
Weld said: "She appreciated the bit better ground.
"She ran a nice race in the Cambridgeshire (5th there to Punch Your Weight) and this was not as competitive.
"She'll probably try for some black-type sooner rather than later." (AM & EM)
