Alexander takes Gold in Pretty Polly

Alexander Goldrun put up what trainer Jim Bolger described as ´her best performance yet´ when produced with a perfectly timed challenge by Kevin Manning to record her third Group 1 win in the Audi Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh this afternoon.

The well-backed 9/4 favourite, who lost some ground at the start when rearing up in the stalls was ridden with great confidence by Manning coming from last to first in the straight to beat Red Bloom and the German raider Elopa by a length and a half and a head.

However she did veer right when hitting the front inside the final furlong, and astewards enquiry was called into possible interference. There was no alteration made to the judge´s placings, with the worst sufferer Saoire eventually finishing eighth.

´She´s a very straight forward filly, tough and genuine, and her only little problem is in the starting stalls as she also missed the break when winning the Prix de l´Opera in Paris last year, said Jim Bolger, who added, ´The Falmouth, Matron Stakes, Prix de l´Opera and the Hong Kong Cup, if she gets another invite, are all possibles.´
