Course and distance winner Royal Spring won well under a good ride. The former point to point winner was successful here last January but trainer Tom Cooper reported "when he won here in January, he didn't jump a fence but still managed to win. However he schooled well recently and it appears he is just a little lazy at stages."
He added "hopefully he'll go for some of the bigger staying chases next season and he is a versatile sort who could go back hurdling too."
View Mount Prince is an enigmatic sort who was never in serious contention but did stay on, without threatening the winner, to go second from the final fence. He has not won since landing three consecutive handicaps in '06 but has the ability to win from his current mark.
There are more handicaps to be won with Tawnies and the slightly disappointing Time To Sell while That's An Idea made a few costly mistakes but still ran a sound race.
Royal Heritage was never in contention but was subsequently reported to be lame while once highly regarded Merdeka, a faller when loose last time out, at least completed.
An extended handicap steeplechase for five yrs old and upwards rated 0-130 Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase after calculation of the handicap to carry 6lb extra for each such steeplechase won.
