'Friendly claim' for Fairyhouse winner
Third win for Protagonist
Barrier Trial winner scores easily on debut
Dec (McDonogh) said she was still a bit green in front and would improve a lot. I loved the way she put her head down and really lengthened. You don’t know what the race is going to turn out like but I think she might be smart. She couldn’t have done any more than she did. I know she won her Barrier Trial but it’s her first time on grass and making all. He said she hit the gates so well and was able to get across onto the rail. She’s a lovely relaxed filly and doesn’t have to do it that way. It’s just the way it worked out and she was very professional.
Fairyhouse double for McDonogh
we thought he had improved coming here and we were looking for a good performance. We were slightly worried that the ground was a bit drier than we thought he’d want and Declan confirmed that but he put in a very good performance and he has improved. He’s learning about racing and after that I’d imagine he’ll stick to six. There are a few options open and we’ll see what mark he gets. We are in no rush and he’ll be a better horse next year. He’s in again here on Sunday but he would need rain.

Cactus Tree wins dramatic handicap
she has a few little problems with her wind and I think that lets her down. I think the ground was too quick for her the last day in Naas and it’s beautiful ground here tonight. She prefers an ease in the ground. We thought she was a decent filly early on but we have kept her because she is such a good work horse and is handy to have around the yard. She leads all the young horses and does all the work at home. I’m delighted for the syndicate. They are a bunch of lads from Castleknock and a cousin of mine set it up. I leased her out and it’s their first horse with me.
Carroll returns on Cromwell trained winner
he had a great run the last time. He’s a three-year-old so he’s still learning on the job. I thought they went a nice gallop and I was able to slot in behind them. I came around them up the straight. He’s still a bit green and ran away a bit left from other horses. I think he’ll improve a bit from it and is a grand handicapper going forward.
