Slattery McDonogh show moves on to Sligo
That was grand, that was the plan. I've had this race in mind for a while,. He ran a grand race in Tipperary and then the owner wanted a runner in Galway and he needed that run as he was still green early on. Nothing went right in Galway, which was a better race. He was slow at the start and was slow again today. He's still a bit backward and could be okay. He just needs to learn. He's a good tough horse and will stay further. I'd say he'll be a mile-and-a-quarter horse next year. He probably needs gelding as well looking at his antics today. He carries the Buck House colours as his owner Michael Quinlan is a son-in-law of Michael Purcell.
Duck Egg tough in beating Gifted Lady
She was giving a lot of weight away (to the second) in her first handicap. She's a home-bred and they are as tough as nails,. I felt I was getting there inside the final furlong but I had to give her a grueller up the hill to get there. Hopefully the handicapper is not too hard on her and we can have a bit of fun with her. She was green down the back and ran off the first and second bends. It's a genuine breed and she stuck her head out at the finish.
16/1 Sligo brace for Slattery and McDonogh
That's great. He got his ground and was impressive there,.
Joy for Cairns with first winner
She only moved in about a fortnight ago. She was badly hampered in Galway at the bottom of the hill and Gary (Carroll) stood up on her,. The ground is the big key to her and she's a grand mare. That's my first winner on the board. I have three or four in training, I have mainly point-to-pointers, and she is the only one for the Flat. I'm a Tyrone man but I moved to Donegal and I'm based in Castlefin.
Sea Swift going places after Sligo rout
We didn't know if she would handle ground that deep but she went through it well. I knew three furlongs out I had it won, she travelled extremely well. She's a filly I like going forward and I think there is more improvement to come. It's been a little frustrating this evening. The ground has been troublesome, it's very deep and not every horse handles it. She got through it very well. She's a home-bred and is a half-sister to the nice juvenile, Right Honourable, who won at Galway. That's two winners in two weeks for the mare and please god this filly can go on and get black-type.
Soul Searcher makes good start in Ireland
Ah Bee See keeps Maddens amongst winners
I'm delighted for Tom as he's had a bit of a quiet spell. He gave him a great ride so it's lovely,. The last day the ground was too quick for him. He ran a cracker previous to that in Wexford. We'll look for something similar and he will go hurdling.
