Guiri does it nicely for champion elect Torrens and race sponsor McManus
The bit of nice ground brought about improvement plus the cheek pieces and a step up in trip,.
Cheltenham Aintree and now a Punchestown winner for Peter Fahey
He was in such a good rhythm. He pricked his ears at the last and jumped it well and quickened up nicely. Peter (Fahey) is very shrewd, he’s had a brilliant season, and I’m delighted to get a winner on the board for him. He was knocking around running okay in maiden hurdles and I rang Sandy Shaw (handicapper) to see what sort of mark he was thinking for him.
74/1 Punchestown brace for Mrs Harrington team
We’ll credit Kate (Mrs Harrington’s daughter — bought the horse) with this one. They’re flying (the yard’s runners). Every year come Punchestown Jessie always pulls a few out of the bag. That’s 45 winners for the season for myself — not too bad. That was a lovely performance and he’s back to what we really thought he was in the autumn.
On the improve and Galopin Des Champs now a Grade One winner
I was in front a hell of a lot earlier than I anticipated — I won’t say too soon because he’s won — though definitely a lot sooner than I thought I would be. He looked very smart today stepping up to three miles. Paul gave him a squeeze going to the third last, he took off and the race was over coming around the last bend. Greg and Audrey Turley have touched on a nice horse here. They’ve had two runners at Cheltenham, this horse and Burning Victory who won the Triumph Hurdle last year. Two from two is not a bad record but it’s going to be hard to keep that up. Paul said he could be a Stayers Hurdle candidate for next year. However, I like to get them going chasing quickly so we’ll have that conversation later in the summer. I wouldn’t mind going chasing with him anyway.
Clan Des Obeaux takes Gold with ultra brave display
Grade One brace for Mullins with Kilcruit
I've been trying for 15 or 16 years to win this. Blazing Liss was my first ride in it for the Flynn family and John Kiely. It's a day I'll never forget. I think we should have won it. I'm glad I got it done today. He looked pretty good there. He glided down to the start. He loved that ground and when you consider how well he handled really heavy ground at Navan in the middle of winter and then win like that — this horse could be anything.
Moore gets richly deserved big success
Grangee completes day two Punchestown treble for Mullins
She stays very well. She’s so small but is very tough,. She was a fantastic buy by Jack Cantillon for just 25 grand. Stamina is her strong point. She’s not very quick but she stays very well.
