The Grey Dove makes the breakthrough under Kennedy
Jockey Byrnes takes a leaf out of Russell's book in Sligo
She jumped well and travelled the whole way. The early pace was generous enough and they seemed to just slow down then going to the second-last and she kept going well to the line. I was thinking of going down the inner, but I felt them coming back to me a small bit so I just kept it nice and simple and went on the outside and she did it grand.
Sequestered overwhelms the 'jolly'
Slevin delighted to get Sittingonthefence home for Carey
. They didn't go mad and the pace collapsed and I was left there, but in fairness to her she kept going well. She was clever at the last. Sonny always does a good job with anything he has, point-to-pointers or track horses, they always jump well. I know him a long time and it's great to ride a winner for him.
'Quirky' Moonovercloon picks up another winning thread
He's very quirky, he wasn't going a yard there the whole way and it was only when he got a bit of daylight he took off. Two out I didn't think I was going to win, but as soon as you pull him out he takes off. He's a hard enough ride. Some days he can be keen, he wasn't today but the last day in Galway he was, he's just hit and miss. He was a bit unlucky in Galway, he didn't get a run at all down the rail and flew home like today, but was unlucky not to have a bit further to run. He's versatile as regards trip, but I'd say the further the better for him.
Old Chap brings up Gilligan's double
It's great for the group of lads. Mossy Larkin's nickname around Kiltormer is 'old chap' and he's one of the syndicate along with Mike Coleman and the three Kilkenny brothers. They'll have some night tonight and one of them probably has to say Mass in the morning, he's a priest!. I thought the horse nearer the stands (Lets Do This) had got up and when you win a race like that, it makes it that bit better. It was his first run over three mile-one, he's a lovely little horse who's honest and would stay galloping all day for you. He was bought handy enough, money wise. My own lads (Jack and Danny) are out at the moment and missed out here with these two winners. They'll be nice horses for Jack when he comes back, Danny has enough horses to ride!
French plan comes to fruition in Sligo for A Penny A Hundred
She was better on the track than she has been at home. She's bred by my mother, we sent a few of our mares over to France as a bit of an experiment so she's a French-bred. I think Jukebox Jury is going to be a fantastic sire, we've plenty of well-bred horses by him and My Great Mate who won in Galway is one of his as well. She has a pedigree with lots of stamina and I'd imagine she'll be able to go up in trip over hurdles.
