Third time lucky for Third World
I was pleased with that and Declan rode him very nicely. We thought if he reproduced his first run at the Curragh he would be good enough to win and sure enough it was,. Galway was a messy race and things didn't pan out but he has put it right today. We'll go to Listowel next for the nursery there. He is a beautifully bred horse and hopefully will improve as time goes on.
Halford Steps it up at Killarney with 1-2
Maybe the two of them deserved it but he'll (Spirit Of Big Bang) have his day too. It was nice to get a bracket with her and her form was good, her last two runs in particular, and she was entitled to go and win her maiden,. She relaxed well with the hood but wasn't doing a whole lot in front. It's Ronan's (Whelan, successful pilot) first winner for us - he hadn't ridden an awful lot for us but has been a bit lately. He meets us an odd time to sit on one at the Curragh but has commitments with Jim Bolger. He's on the Curragh on a Wednesday and rides a bit of work for us.
Daring Keane ride has many at Killarney on a High
I don't know why he hasn't won a couple of races before now but he has been the most unlucky horse. He is genuine as the day is long but has always been in the unlucky part of life!. He needs quicker ground than this be be at his best and we'll see what the handicapper does now. Paul Flynn rang this morning (trainer of non-runner Try Again) to say he wasn't running and I rang Ado McGuinness who said he wasn't running (the second reserve Beau Satchel). We also had the first reserve so this fellow was going up 7lbs so we said we'd run him instead. Sometimes things go your way!
Ballydoyle keep home fires burning with I Can Fly
Linehan pleases Martin with success on New Identity
Everyone thought he wouldn't stay but we fancied him and he'll go hurdling now for the winter,. He is very ground-dependant and we get very little racing out of him during the year because of ground. The jar is gone out of this and Denis gave him a super ride and got him to switch off. He's going to have a little future hurdling we think.
3-2-1 for Ryan at Killarney
He has got tons of ability but you have to cod him into it. He is getting better and stronger with each run and he was just touched off at Leopardstown,. I'll look for more of the same and I'm hoping he'll come forward from winning now - sometimes they know they've won. Lady Kaya is due to run on Sunday (Debutante Stakes); they (owners) are very brave and she'll run in the same colours of my niece Joanne and John (brother). I nearly wasn't going to come here and was going to go back home each day but Robbie Colgan (her work-rider and jockey) just looked at me and said 'are you going to ride her out yourself?. We are minding her as best we can and it's all systems go for Sunday.
Still Standing and on the up and up
We have had a bit of a frustrating summer with him because he doesn't want to go on the very quick ground and got held up a little in the spring,. He is going to come good and hopefully have a good autumn campaign. He didn't act around Ballinrobe and Colm got him up to win on the line but has won here impressively. Hopefully he might sneak into one of the big handicaps on Champions Weekend now. He has a lot of pace but 1m3f-1m4f are his ideal trips. Mrs Patino (owner) loves Mastercraftman's and she bought him last year to eventually stand as a stallion but he'll race on again next year.
Impressive Eight gives Moyglare/Weld & McDonogh 10/1 brace
He is learning how to be a racehorse and is still very immature and is far from the finished article,. We hope he will make into a very nice four year old next year and we've had to be patient with him and it's paying off. He'll have one more run this year in six weeks time. By the way he is bred you'd hope he might end up being something and he hasn't let us down to date. He won't be a St Leger horse this year but it would be lovely if he made into an Irish St Leger horse next year; it's a race dad has a good record in so it would be nice to add to it. We'll take baby steps for now and see where we end up.
