She was unlucky not to win in Sligo. The trip in Sligo was probably a bit short for her but I knew she would come up the hill. I always thought she would win a maiden but when we got a mark of 70 I thought we would take advantage of it. I think she could develop into a Lincoln filly for next year. She can be a bit gassy early but I think she’ll stay a mile. She got hurt here last year. She fractured a shin bone and we left her alone.
Miss Mirabell justifies favouritism in style
She was drawn bad and ran green here the first day but I loved the way she finished. She got her head down and really ran to the line. Her work has been good since and she has come on a lot from the run. That was a pretty good performance. Ben said he would have liked a lead but nothing was going on so he made the running and when he gave her a backhander she quickened up well. She’s a big filly and was a bit raw the first day. Her mind is a bit sharper now and she should improve. She’s got scope and is a well-bred filly. We’ll see what the handicapper does. There is a couple of nice fillies handicaps coming up. I think that is a good trip for her and she might get a mile and a quarter later in the year.
New York Angel brings up quick Murtagh double
I was getting a little bit frustrated with her because she always works well at home. She’s a big girl and she’s probably getting fitter with each run. We’ll keep at her and hopefully she’ll be able to win again. She always promised to do something like this and I’m just glad that it has all come together for her.
Alhaajeb makes all under Whelan
We gave him a bit of a breather after Dundalk. He was very consistent his last few runs and we always knew he wanted good ground. He will be for sale but I know he’s going to make a good hurdler. He’s a real fun horse and has improved plenty. Ronnie was just class on him. He gave him a real good ride and dictated it. They are not coming from behind.
