Mahon one two as odds-on fav falls at last
I made the mistake and got it wrong as originally I didn't think he'd win his bumper and after his run here at the festival, we were hood-winked into running him in a bumper,. He finds another gear over a hurdle though, and he jumps a fence really well and is more of a chasing type in time - he is still only four. My other horse (Ceide Fields) also ran a blinder, and I was happy going to the last (hurdle) and obviously was delighted to win and also finish second.
Jack supplies Davy with some compo
He jumped a little big the last day and we were a little concerned about the rain that fell earlier today,. He might have a break now for a couple of months as he has been on the go for a year.
2 for Townend as Beach impresses again
That was very impressive and she is improving with every run. She showed a great turn of foot off a strong gallop and I think she could win on the Flat. The aim for the end of the summer is the Grade 3 mares' novice hurdle at Down Royal (in November) and if she keeps improving who's to say she's not worth her place in the mares' novice in Cheltenham. It was probably a big ask for the second mare (Retour En France), coming back off a two year absence and giving 5lbs to the race-fit winner. She is a big chaser though, and it was a good run and she'll improve an awful lot. She could run over fences at some stage soon.
Father Jed wins under "ice cool" Mullins
They went plenty quick and it suited him and Danny gave him a super ride. He didn't panic round the back and was ice cool,. I hope he'll win again at this level and he also jumps well and can go chasing. He is in at Clonmel on Thursday but will hardly run and might go to Listowel instead.
Gigginstown/Elliott 1 2 in Ballybrit Grade 3
43/1 Galway double for Mahon
Keith (Donoghue) thought he went slow at Ballinrobe, and today wanted to make the running, but I told him to wait until the fourth last before sending him on - he probably won too far but it was good to win. I thought a lot of him as a young horse and minded him but he has been disappointing to say the least. He'll go for something similar next.
The Birdie Crowe now 2 from 4
The previous experience around the track helped and she travelled today. With the bit more dig in the ground she was awesome,. She is a good filly and will go for the Listed Bumper in Gowran now. It's great for Andrew and Eamonn Leigh and the whole Leigh family who own her - they are with us a long long time and it's brilliant to ride a winner for them.
