Wakea gets back on track in opener
It is still a mystery how he had an anti-inflammatory drug in his system as he never had any cuts or issues. When the test came back positive from Newmarket, they said it would have a seven-day withdrawal period but it took three months and he only tested clear on Wednesday week. It has been a wasted summer but hopefully he is on the right road now and it was grand to get experience in another maiden hurdle. He'll come on a ton from the run and John (Barry) said he took a good blow. He also pulled very hard early on and he is so big, his jumping will improve.
Girls on top as Rascal whizzes in
I'm delighted as she was scoping dirty all summer and I couldn't get her to scope clean. She's a half-sister to Clondaw Warrior and will probably go to the Tattersalls Broodmare Sale in November. We'll try and nick some black-type before then and there's a three-mile handicap hurdle at Gowran for her but I don't know if she will get into it. She is what she is at this stage but getting black-type would help her in November.
Simiel makes it a treble for front-runners
He had some good bumper form but then disappointed a few times and was very disappointing over fences. He seems to struggle a bit with his jumping but a few of the jockeys that have ridden him have said that the tight tracks like Tramore or Downpatrick don't suit him so we might try him over fences again on a more galloping track. Dylan (Robinson) was due to ride but unfortunately is hurt and that was Conor's first ride for me. He gave the horse a great ride.
Lass lands gamble for Winters
Her dam is a sister to Upswing, who has black-type with Jonjo O'Neill and she won a good point-to-point on fast ground at Bartlemy. I thought she would run well at Downpatrick but was a bit disappointing and maybe my horses weren't quite right at the time though. We'll keep her on the go now.

Pennys turned into Euro in 3m handicap
I received my licence last July and this horse was my first winner at Tramore. He's a right little horse and this was only his second run over three miles. He can go for anything from 2m5f to three miles and he'll keep on the go but we'll look for a dry week to run him next - yielding to soft ground would be ok for him.
Barry doubles up on Pio in the bumper
We liked him, he knows how to gallop and was fit as a fiddle. He was a bit hot at the start the last twice but we put the hood on him to keep him quiet and I told Johnny to be handy. He'll go for a hurdle next. I'm delighted for Johnny riding a double as he is an old pal of mine.
