Well-backed Dawn takes Clonmel opener
Her bumper form entitled her to do that and she had a lovely run back at Gowran and then against the geldings at Galway she wasn't fully wound and this was the plan to come here. She could go on for a winners and hopefully she'll progress as the season goes on. We think she's useful but has just taken a bit of time. The plan is to get black-type over hurdles and is a long term project in terms of being a chaser in the making
Trainwreck lands a gamble
He jumped well - I was disappointed with him at Galway but he is a big baby and is all the time learning. The winner of the first race Dawn Shadow was fifth at Galway and we were sixth so that is fairly telling, so this race probably wasn't as good as Galway but I think he has improved and learned a lot from the first day. We'll look for one of those rated novice hurdles now.
Robin another for Halley
He has been running his races all summer and has been second four times, so was entitled to get a win. We didn't think it would take him this long to get his first win this season and we'll keep him going as he is handling soft ground better now as he gets stronger. I don't think he's an out-and-out winter horse on heavy ground but handles soft and we'll hope to run him in another handicap hurdle next.
Darwin now has Troytown in his sights
That's going to leave him spot on for the Troytown and I think he's going to be competitive in it too. He's a horse that is improving and we're happy where he is now. It was his first time running over three miles but you're never afraid of running them over three miles with Denis, as he drops them in lovely and he said he was always going to win. Denis gives those horses great confidence and three miles in the Troytown, dropped in with a strong pace and ridden like that, will suit him. He's back on the right road now.
Chosen springs surprise on debut for Spillane
We can't much of the credit for this as he was with David McGrath previously and he had all the hard work done for us. He loved it around here and while he runs best when fresh, we thought he might still need the run. We'll space out his races now.
