He was entitled to improve on his jumping after his first run over hurdles the last day and he'll make a lovely fun horse for the owners (Ives Ashley Vasey Partnership).

He worked well in a schooling hurdle at Thurles ten days ago and Davy liked him. Today's race was the worst maiden hurdle of the year and I'd have been disappointed if he couldn't do the business. I had no worries about the ground. His owner (Martin White, from Adare, Co Limerick) bought him two years ago but he had niggly problems and we had to keep him back until now. That was no harm long-term as he is a big horse who will jump a fence next season. We'll look for a winners of one next.

Fahy has Cheltenham aim for Gunnery

That was great and I'm delighted with him. Conditions suited but he needed to win today as I'm thinking about running him in the 0-140 handicap chase at Cheltenham. He'll be entered and if he gets in, I wouldn't mind going over with him. He has had three quick runs and will have a lovely freshen up now.

Fahy doubles up with new recruit

Her owner Liam Hurley rang me looking for a horse as I was with Martin (Cullinane) a month ago and I bought her off him. I had seen how fine a filly she was previously and the more Martin liked her, the more I wanted to buy her. In fairness to Katie she was on the outside and was in no hurry. At home she had been doing everything well and had muscled up so much. She is kind and easy to deal with and I imagine she can step up now. She is well bred and is proper stuff. That wasn't her ground but I wanted to find out a few things today.

In fairness to her she ran into a couple of good ones but was getting the allowances here. She's not the top mare around but has guts. She's not good enough for a winners bumper as you'll meet better ones and will go for a mares maiden hurdle next.
