He is finally improving and it's great to see him put two good runs together like that,. Hopefully he'll pick up another one. I wasn't sure if I'd got up but I thought I might get it if I didn't get up if you know what I mean (after an enquiry). I just got a little bit squeezed but in fairness he saw it out well. I was happy that my fella was going to stay going as he has won around here over two mile five and won the last time over two and a half. He stayed going up the hill and I could just see Darragh was starting to tie up going down to the last. It's a tell-tale sign when they start looking over their shoulder they are not going that well! . Darragh's fella just jumped left at the last and my fella was leaning towards the rail so I said we'd keeping going that way. We won't aim too high with him now.
Doyle rides out claim in style on Whatsyourstatus
I've got him beaten ten times over. He runs a bit gassy and keen and we always thought he wanted two miles or two mile two. He actually wants three miles. I even thought that today might be a bit too short for him. With the race being for horses who hadn't won over hurdles I said I'd take a chance. Ricky actually rode him during the week for me up the Old Vic. He said; 'I do not know how this horse hasn't won a race!'. If he comes out of this well he could go for the three mile handicap hurdle at Listowel next Friday. He would be tailor made for it. It's an amateur riders hurdle and we'd try to get Derek O'Connor or Ben Harvey to ride. He had eleven grand won before today and he only cost E1,500 at an August sale. I also have his sister and I think she is quite good. Her name is Fanoir, she is better than him and goes to Listowel for a mares bumper next. Conor rode him the last day and he is big part of the team. It's unfortunate for him. Ricky is a good replacement and I'm delighted for him to lose his claim. There is a few local lads in Clarecastle that will be delighted too and we might have a few pints on Monday to celebrate.
Red Iron strikes for Fenton & O'Brien
We were looking at an unplaced maiden hurdle if she hadn't won today. She had some nice form to her name and suffered a bit with sore shins and little things like that. Things came together for her today. I'd say the quick ground was a big help and she stayed wide on the faster part of it. I'd say she'll come back here for a maiden hurdle next month. We haven't enough in at the moment and it's a big struggle but we'll make the best of it.
