Kitty Rose blossoms on debut at Naas
Matter Of Fact claims odds-on favourite
That was nice. She ran in May and has grown an awful lot since then. Nathan said when she was in behind she was behind the bridle, whether it was the kickback or what. It wasn't until he pulled her out that she absolutely flew up the hill. She did it well. She was still very green and she'll have learned a lot, which is great. I'd say she could step up in trip but the dam only got six, even though she's by Galileo. She has got a beautiful pedigree. My two-year-olds are only just starting to come to themselves. They were all good in the spring and then they all started growing. She was small in May, but now she's a fine, big filly. We'll see what comes up and see where we go from here. I'd hope we'd be going for stakes race next. She's got the pedigree and she's done that well. I'd say it was a good maiden, my other filly (fourth-placed Heavenly Being) didn't seem to get home.
Mctenett makes his mark in Naas
He had a nice run the first (day) and he learned a good bit, he was more professional today. He looks like a nice horse going forward. We were happy that he'd get the six up here well. It was a nice straightforward ride by Dylan and it's nice to have a winner for Neil (Sands) and the Bronsan team. There is plenty of money in those auction races and there is a winners' race in Roscommon in early September.
Ocean Quest sails home to bring up Harrington's double
That's great. She hasn't run since Ascot, we gave her time. We know she likes a bit of give in the ground and that's why we put away after Ascot,. I think she'll go on anything actually and she's a very classy filly. Ascot in October is the main target and she's in at Haydock in the Group 1 sprint there. We didn't put her on Irish Champions Weekend because it's five furlongs, but apparently she gets a free entry now. If it came up heavy, maybe. This summer we've had no idea what ground we're going to get. You can have good to firm in the morning and abandoned in the afternoon. We know she goes on heavy, she's won on heavy and she's gone on good to firm so she's a very versatile filly. She's classy and speedy.
Distillate doubles her career total
That's her first time taking on the older horses, I like to try and keep the three-year-olds to their own company for as long as I can,. She's improving all the time and she ran a cracker at Cork the last day in the muck. Adam was very good on her. She'll improve again and hopefully the handicapper won't be too hard on her. She's a real fun filly. She was actually going to go home after today for a rest and then come back for Dundalk for the winter. We'll see what the handicapper does now and see what happens.
Caffrey doubles up aboard Oriole
We didn't have her long going to Galway, she shouldn't have really run there but the lads were down there on the beer for the week so wanted to run her. It was a bit of a fact-finding mission the first day, we dropped her in and 'Dusty' (Shane Foley) rode her. He loved her and said she'd gallop all day. A mile-and-two is her minimum and we can definitely step her up in trip. He got there plenty soon on her but it just fell asunder in front of him and she was always doing enough to hold on. Adam is a good young lad, he lives beside us, so there will be a party in Clonalvy tonight anyway. She's not big. Dylan's (Browne McMonagle) father John is involved with the syndicate that owns her. He rang me to say they had bought her at the sales and there was 'a big mare coming to you to go hurdling'. When she arrived on the lorry I said 'where is the rest of her?'. We have her schooled and she jumps well, so that's another option for her and I'd say she'll win a mares maiden hurdle no bother.
Coen and Murtagh Take Heart with ready winner
Ben doesn't do 8-10 very often but he was keen to ride him,. He said he gave him a good feel the last day, he probably should have won but he just didn't get enough room at the right time. He's a fine big horse that doesn't do much at home, but when he comes to the track you can't fault his form. He's one of those big slow developers and I think he'll make up into a premier handicap horse the way he is going. He's only had a few runs so he should keep improving. I put him in the big mile-and-a-quarter handicap on Champions Weekend, the Northfields. Whether it's too early for him or not, I'm not sure and we'll see what Barry Irwin wants to do.
