Rain wins in the sunshine at Cork
Pat (Smullen) was pleased with her and she travelled well and did everything nicely and was brave. She looked to have the race won but tired a little and the second filly has had a lot of experience and was just coming back her. She stuck her head out though and wasn't going to be denied. We've no grand ambitions and will look for a Nursery in a couple of weeks time.
Oneoveryou wins on debut for Fahey
I only have her a couple of weeks and don't know too much about her but Conor (Hoban) knows her well. We just freshened her up and brought her down here to see how we got on and sure we got a good result out of it. She did it nicely but where we go next, I haven't a clue!
Bid battles for another 'surprise' big-race win
everybody keeps mentioning about him being a surprise 50/1 winner of a Group 3 last year but everybody forgets he was 100/1 that morning - we weren’t surprised!. it’s nice to see him get his head back in front and things haven’t worked out for him in his last couple of runs. He came back from France very fresh and well and we said we’d give him a shot at this and Leigh (Roche) again was magic on him today. He loves to rattle off the top of the ground but is a horse you can’t delay with, and at France the last day he boiled over. Another horse pulled a shoe off at the start and there was a 25 minute hold-up, which was a disgrace to be honest, but it’s a different country with different ways of doing things and we have to work by that. We’ll step him back up to a Group 3 or 2 now but there’s no programme for those horses in Ireland so he’ll have his suitcases packed again shortly. I think he’s definitely a Group 2 horse when things go right for him.
Monica back to her best in Munster Oaks
Moon just prevails in the Cork Derby
He was consistent all last year and was unlucky in York but he always had one of those in him. We were going to the Curragh a month ago but he just wasn't right and luckily enough they are all coming right now and it was worth the wait. He loves that ground and that's his trip and Oisin is a great lad and didn't panic when he jumped slowly out of the stalls. He's is great fella and is going to be one of the top men around I think. He can mix it between hurdles and flat for the summer and wants that ground.
Queluz gains deserved first win
he deserves it but I was very close to pulling him out because of the quick ground. He’s by Bushranger and will go on anything except extremes and it was getting too quick but he seemed to handle it ok. That’s his grade and we’ll see what the handicapper does and keep running in those races.
Lordan & O'Mara on the mark with Avalanche
First & last race double for Weld & Smullen
She didn't quite get home at Tipperary but she was much happier coming back in trip today and battled well. She is a very well bred filly - her uncle is Harzand, and it's great to get the win with her. We'll look for a handicap with her next.
