Master just gets the better of Bass in opener
I was very hopeful coming here. He needed the run when second here last month and he was then just behind Apache (who finished third, Irish Review won that race) at the Curragh on his last start. He will step up in trip to a mile and a half now and we will go handicapping with him.
Woman goes three places better this time around
I thought the ground was gone for her as she wants it quick. Seamie gave her a great ride and rode her the same way he usually does when she wins. That was the absolute limits of her stamina. She won a couple of handicaps last year.
Quick double for Heffernan as Table delivers
That's a relief after paying 200,000 guineas for him! . He came back with a very sore back after his run over hurdles and we gave him a break then to freshen him up. He was a bit immature and we were rushing him with the Triumph Hurdle in mind. He will make an nice novice hurdler next season. Seamie (Heffernan) said he liked the ground and stays all day. He has plenty of options now and we will stick to the flat with Galway in mind.
First for Hogan on flat as Curtis doubles up
Ben got off her the last day and said she wants a bit of juice in the ground and further. So I was delighted to see the rain this morning and it made all the difference. She is a nice big mare and she will go back to jumping hurdles and maybe even a fence in time. She is my first winner on the flat and she is the only one I have for the flat. Unfortunately I'm too heavy to ride her myself!
One For Joules wins again for Hanlon & Mullins
I was just afraid the ground had gone for her, but Danny (Mullins) said she didn't mind it. She is in again tomorrow for a handicap hurdle but we will see how she comes out of this before deciding whether or not to run her. If there is more rain she definitely won't go. She dropped herself back, down the back of the course but she picked up again as the ground got better.
Campbonnais takes the Connacht National
In my opinion Philip is one of the best jockeys around off that weight. I was expecting a big run on that sort of ground. It was the first time I was ever happy with a mark given to one of my horses from the handicapper. The ground was too quick for him in a classy race at Killarney on his last start. He will go for the Midlands National at Kilbeggan now as his owner (Michael O'Leary) will be keen to have a runner there. He disappointed around there before, but I think he is sweeter this year.
Eagle soars to record back to back victories
He is getting better. His jumping is improving with experience. I was worried about the trip but it didn't matter in that ground. He will go in summer soft but he wouldn't like winter soft. We will tip away with him now at the smaller trackers and we will see what comes up.
O'Sullivan takes his opportunity on Alhellal
That's not before time. He done it well in the end. He had a good run at Ballinrobe (on his penultimate start), but he disappointed at Killarney on his last start, where he came back stiff and sore. He galloped on well to the line and he will probably go hurdling now as he jumps well.
