'Slight panic' as Harrington wins flat season's opener
Shane said she was very professional but I thought she was never going to get out and I had a slight panic! . She was never away once and is probably a six-furlong filly. We very nearly didn’t run her today because we think she wants six. we have 70 two-year-olds this year which is the most we have ever had. When you have a lot of two-year-olds it’s great to get one on the board early.
Memorable Minutes for Team McGuinness
Perfect start for Pretty Polly winners
I’m delighted for the owner who had Thundering Nights, another filly by Night Of Thunder, and if this one progresses half as far as her, we will be happy. It’s nice to get a good start to the season. She had good form last year and we thought she would run well. I’d say it was a very competitive maiden as you would expect and it’s great to get on the board. We’ll see how she comes out of this and I’d imagine she will step into a Stakes race next.
O'Callaghan off the mark for new owners
it’s the first horse I’ve training for Kia Joorabchian and AMO Racing and I’m delighted to train a winner for them. He was an expensive yearling (420,000gns) and you could see why as he’s a very good looking horse. He’s taken a bit of time and was as green as grass through the middle of that race. He was one of the first off the bridle. Leigh switched him out, got daylight and he kept picking up. I think the further he goes the better he’ll go. I thought it would be very difficult to beat Jim Bolger’s horse (Boundless Ocean) and he ran a very good race so it might entitle us to have a crack at the Guineas Trial in Leopardstown over a mile. We’ll see where we go from there and he’s a nice horse to have.
Mother Earth wins on return, Lockinge next
we’re delighted with her. We came here with a view to going for the Lockinge (Newbury over a mile, May 14). They went steady early which was lovely for her first run and it’s beautiful ground.
Trainer Murtagh bags first Irish Lincoln
two weeks ago if you said would I get him ready, I thought he mightn’t get there. He’s a big horse and takes his work really well. His last two bits of work, he’s really tightened up — we had brought him to Walsh’s Hill (on the Curragh) where the ground was soft. Ben said he travelled really nice through the race. He felt really good and quickened up well. It was only his last piece of work that I was pretty confident he was nearly there. He should improve a little bit fitness wise. I only have him about five or six weeks and he could be a Stakes horse in the making. He came in good shape and he’ll probably always want a little juice (in the ground). He’s got that big powerful action. Robson (Aguiar) is looking after all AMO’s horses with his team in Westmeath. Carrytheone (finished fifth) ran well with ten stone. He’s a horse that could go for the Royal Hunt Cup - the Australian crew (Any Excuse For A Holiday Syndicate) want to come back for Ascot.
Consecutive successes for Massaman
Crosse collects with cool Curragh ride
he didn’t win last year but he was second and third here a few times and he’s always been thereabouts. He’s for the apprentices in the yard to ride and six or an easy seven (furlongs) suits him. The ground was just lovely for him today.
