Its Bilbo off the mark on Irish debut
Danny Cooper recommended him from France and liked his run back in the spring. He’s a fine big horse and hopefully will continue to improve. We won’t be in any mad panic this year and it’s lovely to have Matt (Fitzgerald, owner) here and winning. Darragh said he was a bit green, but he responded when he asked him. We might look at Leopardstown at Christmas and will give him a few runs to see where we are.
O'Keeffe and de Bromhead fire in double with Butch Cassidy
He’s a lovely big horse and a real chaser in the making. He has loads of size and scope and he gallops. He’s big and raw and we felt whatever he did today, that he’d improve. He has a good attitude. I didn’t get a schooling hurdle into him which I would have liked, but his jumping improved as the race went on. Darragh was brilliant on him and delighted to get a winner for the Magniers who are fantastic supporters.
Mullins 'very pleased' with Ballyburn's chasing debut
He did things very well and took a good blow during the race which means there is a lot of improvement to come. A lot of ours are running that way and it was a worry going out. He jumped from fence to fence and I was very pleased. I think Paul was very pleased as well. He has a lovely low head carriage and usually horses with a head carriage like that are very good jumpers. I haven’t been looking past today but we’ll have a look at what’s available and there is a chance he could go to England.
Stellar Story leads home Elliott trio in Florida Pearl
It was a competitive race and probably neither horse wanted to be in front. They are big, three-mile staying-chasers and idle in front. Sam’s lad wasn’t doing much in front and then when Jack got in front he wasn’t doing much either. At one stage they were only going 23 or 24mph. It was an exciting finish and all credit has to go to Michael O’Leary for running all three runners in the race. Search For Glory had a run and Stellar Story hadn’t. I’d say if Jack had another go he’d probably sit behind Sam and have one go at him. In fairness, both horses had a good school around. I’d imagine Stellar Story will run over three miles at Christmas and Search For Glory will probably be going for similar races.
Watch The Weather and Tiernan Power Roche!
It’s the first time that Tiernan rode for me and he gave him a lovely ride. I told him to try and keep him on the bridle for as long as he could and come with one run. I thought the ground was gone on him. He’s better on better ground and that’s the first time that he’s won on that sort of ground. He jumped for fun and it’s a great pot to win. He’s been on the go all summer and will go on his holidays now. We’ll have him back in the spring maybe for Punchestown.
Brighterdaysahead conquers State Man in epic Morgiana
I know she had race fitness, but I thought it was a good performance. Everything went wrong for her because she was on her own in front. She would be better with a lead. We knew two miles would be a bit short for her, but she had race fitness and we had to make use of it. She was idling in front and wasn’t doing a stroke, so you would have to be happy. She is having a good blow, so there is plenty of improvement in her. She’s a good mare. The Mares' Hurdle is probably the race made for her, but we’ll see what happens. Leopardstown could be a bit sharp for her, but we’ll have a chat with Michael and Eddie (O'Leary) and see what they would like to do.
It's a Binge Worthy treble for Elliott and Kennedy backers
I’m a little bit surprised, but the horses are flying. He kept going well and we’ll find something similar for him.
Heads Up shows off his engine in Punchestown
How did I get him beaten in two bumpers?. He’s still a little bit immature mentally and ran off the bend past the stand first time. He’s not doing everything right, but has enormous ability. Finn (Buckley) said he felt like he was never out of second gear the whole way. It’s my first horse for Darragh (McDonagh) and he’s been very patient with him. He’s only four and we’ll definitely stick with bumpers, but whether we give him a break and bring him back for a good spring bumper I don’t know. Whatever he’s doing here, jumping is his game.
