66/1 Second stuns punters in Navan opener
He reminds me of Rince Ri. He won a maiden hurdle here at this meeting like that - he bolted in. If he turns out as good as him I'd be delighted. It's a pleasant surprise and he's a nice horse. I actually rode the great grand-dam Hourly Rate. He done it nicely. I thought he was a nice horse and he'd run well but I didn't think he was forward enough to beat the fancied horses. He jumped well and travelled well. It looked a hot race but he made small work of them anyway. I'll talk to Frank and JP now and see what they want to do. He'll probably go for a winners of one somewhere. He's a lovely big chasing type and looks like a half decent horse. On his first run you wouldn't expect that. Katie said we should run him in a bumper but I wanted to go down the hurdling route.
Pravalaguna looks another nice Mullins mare
It was a good performance and she’ll improve her jumping a bit I hope. She was a bit novicey. She pulled very hard so I think for a mare that was that keen over that trip, around a track like this, it says a lot about her ability. We’ll looks for a mares novice hurdle for her, probably after Christmas. She can come back to two miles, I think, it might suit her better.
Ponder lands touch back over hurdles
I have to thank the owners, they’ve had great patience waiting for this horse because he’s had back problems and different things. They were disappointed the last day he ran in Naas so we decided to put him back over hurdles and he seemed to enjoy himself today. We’ll keep going for something similar now when he’s in that frame of mind. He can jump fences well too but he just seemed to disappoint the last day.
Attribution digs deep in exciting Klairon Davis
I’m delighted with that. He battled really well. He’s quite lazy throughout so I’m just delighted to see him battle. It was a super ride from Bryan and he jumped well. They both ran a blinder, Three Stars also under a 6lb penalty. They both ran really well and I’m delighted with both of them to be honest. They both jumped well and I’m really pleased. Attribution might even get a bit further and we might look at the novice chase in Limerick for him.
Oscar Knight jumps to it in feature
He won well in Galway and had every chance in Punchestown when he nearly fell after jumping the fence well. Mark Walsh said he slipped on the next stride after the fence. I thought he would have run on after the last fence in Punchestown after making that mistake and when he didn’t I was saying is he gone out of form’. He was working well at home so we said we’d take a chance. There was no point going for a 50,000 race with a penalty so we said we’d come here instead of Punchestown tomorrow. I don’t know if that will get him into the Paddy Power, or even if JP or Frank want to go for it, but he’s in the race anyway so it’s there and I’ll leave it to the owner. If they want me to run I’ll run. I’m very happy with today. He jumped well enough bar a few down the far side. He has his own way of doing it and we do work on his back from time to time.
Our Duke looks the part over fences
It was a lovely performance. He was great, and he looked good last year winning the bumper and hurdle. I don’t know what happened to him in Thurles but he came back and finished third in Fairyhouse. It’s great to get his chasing career underway. I thought that was a very very hot race. He made a mistake at the third last, probably his only mistake, and Robert was amazed how quick he came back on the bridle. We’ll take it from there. Christmas comes a bit quick and we might wait for Naas. He does go on soft ground. The lovely thing is that he has lived up to what we thought he was last year and he is a very big horse. He was fit enough to do himself justice. Funnily enough for a big horse, once you get him fit he’s there.
Dr Wallace justifies support on debut
I’m delighted, and I think he is nice. He’s a big baby and is going to improve. He’s going to be very good I think. Paddy gave him a lovely ride. He was a little bit babyish when he hit the front. He’s a full-brother to Backspin who was a really good horse. Peter Magnier is in on him with me. Peter is great, he’s a big support to the yard, and I’m delighted for him. We’ll give him a chance and I wouldn’t think we’ll come back at Christmas. I’m not really sure where we’ll go and we’ll see how he is. He just might be one for Cheltenham, for the bumper. There are a couple of lovely bumpers here without even crossing the water and we could give him a chance for the year. He jumps really well but he won’t do any of that until next year. I’m delighted with him.
