Grand Bornand settles well and wins well
Elite Charbonniere off the mark over hurdles
He got the job done and he jumped the last like he would prefer a fence,. I think good ground is hugely beneficial to him so he'll keep going from now on. It's the same with (first race winner) Grand Bornand and we'll probably target all the festivals with them.
Quick treble for Mullins as Eurotiep obliges at 1/6
That's great for Aubrey and the Down The Hatch Syndicate, that's Aubrey's third win on him and they make a good team. Luke McMahon put together the syndicate to buy this horse. He'll go for the final of this race now at Punchestown, if there is something nice in between we might go for that but the final is the big goal. He gallops and jumps and he might be Aubrey's first winner over fences next season!
Fox Fearless springs 28/1 surprise for McKiernan
We gave him a few runs on the Flat and I made a mistake and put him in the wrong race at Dundalk one night, a six furlong race, and he finished second in it. It surprised everybody. We were schooling him over hurdles at home and we said the ground would be good at Leopardstown and we'd have a go here and see what happens. I'm delighted and Barry gave him a grand ride, he knows him of course and does all the schooling. It was just a matter of getting him here today and see how he goes so I've no plans. I didn't really think he'd be able to win that as it was competitive enough but we're happy.
Rothwell lands a touch with Siberian Star
I'm really thrilled. Joseph Germaine heads the (Scrub A Dub Dub) syndicate that owns him and he owns a local pub in Baltinglass, down near home. He's been a huge supporter of mine over the past ten years and pretty much every horse I've had for him has won. There were probably one or two doubters about this lad early on but we couldn't race him last summer because there was no racing. He's been running through the winter on heavy and I said to Joe coming up here today that I'd find it very hard to see him getting beat. Three miles on good ground was the secret. James has rode him a few times on heavy and even he thought he might struggle today but I was very confident that once we got this ground he was going to put up a big performance. We'll keep him on the go into the summer and he might even jump a fence someday. Today was great.
Winning 'spare' for O'Connor on Exit Poll
Family success for the O'Sullivans with Super Citizen
On his hunter chase form on good ground he had a great chance,. It was disappointing at Thurles. Frustration led us to run there on ground that didn't really suit him. He's a lovely horse. He was in the Foxhunters but because of the situation with the amateurs we didn't go there, Michael was going to ride him. We'll keep him going while the ground is good and might look for something at Punchestown or maybe Fairyhouse. This is his ground. I thought he was harshly treated by the handicapper but obviously he wasn't.
Meet And Greet completes 173/1 double for McKiernan
We felt he was very unlucky the last day in Punchestown when he was only touched off. A few things went wrong and the line just came a little bit quick for him. Today we felt he had improved from the last run but I felt it was a hot bumper. I felt if he finished in the first three of four I'd be happy. Looking at the speed they went off at, it looked like a quick run bumper in my eyes anyway. I think our horse was the only one of the front bunch that stayed there. I thought it was a dead-heat or that we might have been second, especially when Jamie Codd is on the other side of you. I'm very happy to win it and I think he is a nice horse. He likes a bit of good ground and the ground is lovely here. I'd say he'll go to Punchestown for something and then that'll be it. The other horse was a bit unexpected but I thought this lad would be there or thereabouts.
