Arabeska gets a deserved win to her name
I thought she was very unlucky the last day to bump into what is probably a good horse of John Oxx's (Highland Dress),. She did nothing wrong and I thought she ran a lovely race in Cork. She ran a lovely race there again. You'd nearly say she's a handicapper in amongst maidens as she's so professional. We'll see what the handicapper does now. The syndicate (the Imperial Crown Syndicate) like to get black-type for fillies to go on and breed from eventually. They are the same owners as Nitro Boost. We'll be looking for a bit of black-type for her in the long run.
Black Magic Woman lands gamble in Gowran feature
I saw that her price was a lot smaller at the off than it was yesterday evening. Someone fancied her, and expected her to outrun her price, but it wasn't my money. I was just happy to see her hit the line in front,. It's nice to have her back on track. She's always been promising and we just had to get her to put it all together today. With the help of Gary Halpin she did that. The trip and ground was ideal, she got a lovely run on the rail and picked up well when Gary asked her. It was a really good performance. On that evidence I'd say she'd get a mile, now that she's running her race the right way around. I'd expect her to improve again off that. We'll look at the premier handicaps that are coming up. I had earmarked one a couple of weeks ago but we took her to York instead and the ground was a bit quick for her over there. I'll get my head in the program book now and look forward to the season with her. She's a nice filly to have.
Cap collects with late charge
He's tough anyway, in fairness to him, because he hasn't been spared,. That's his fourth run in a month. We'll keep tipping away with him. It's great for Richard, and he saw him winning — it's not often it works out like that. Andy gave him a good ride.
McCreery & Lee double-up with Come September
She's owned by a syndicate with Andrew Nolan's wife and a couple of Kilkenny lads involved in her. They sent her to me last year and I thought she was a lovely filly but just a little bit backward,. They were lovely patient owners and let me take my time with her. We targeted this race about a month ago. She's a nice filly and I think her and the second are two nice fillies for first time out fillies. The two of them quickened up well to the line. She quickened away and then Billy said she just idled a bit.
Keane shines on Nero
That was great — what a ride!. He said he's still a bit babyish, he's not sure because one minute he's keen and the next he's off the bridle. In all fairness when he wanted him in the last 150 yards he quickened up well through the gap. Mentally he's probably still a little bit weak, and still has a little bit to go, but hopefully after today, with that race under his belt, he'll improve. Hopefully he can win another one of those before the year is out.
Cuban Hope justifies market support
I think he's a good horse,. He's in again at the Curragh on Friday and he'll probably be able to win with a little penalty. He'll be a nice horse to go jumping in time.
Up Helly Aa completes Gowran treble for McCreery & Lee
I would rather he had run in the first race and taken the pressure off as he was the one I was expecting to win today,. The other two were bonuses, well Arabeska I thought would win also. He's a smashing colt and I'm very lucky to have him. He did everything lovely and he's still a work in progress. He's still asleep in his work and in his race there. I loved the way he quickened up there inside the last furlong or so. We'll talk to the owners and let them decide. I'd love to go to a winners race, or something like that, to give him a bit more education. He's still a baby and he won't be out quick. The next maiden wasn't till Cork and in case it was firm I said we'd come here. We'll work from here and I think we'll stick to a mile-and-two because the way he quickened up there he still has a bit of his mother's pace. He's the first foal out of Fiesolana and his sister by Dubawi, called Innervisions, will hopefully be running in the next three or four weeks. He's a gorgeous horse and it great to have horses like that in the yard. It keeps the dream alive. I had a treble in Tipperary a few years ago.
