Mystical Power an exciting prospect
Local lad Gilligan on target as McManus doubles up
He's been doing everything well and we were very happy with him. Danny did everything right and gave him a good ride. I’ve trained all this family including Teacher’s Pet and Whatareudoingtome, and they were decent horses. This fella should make a lovely chaser. I suppose he’ll go to Listowel and whether he’ll go chasing this year I don’t know. I’ll talk with Frank (Berry) and see what the plan is.

Course specialist Teed Up lands day one feature
The weather came for us today and probably didn’t suit a lot of others. He’s a proper little dinger of a horse and has such a good record around here — horses for courses and he loves coming back. The reason we bought him was the Ballybrit form and he’s paid off his purchase in spades. Ray (Barron) was very good on him. He hadn’t ridden for me before and I didn’t want to overload him with instructions. I just told him to take his time and if you get a gap on the hill make sure you go out and not in. He had a willing partner and it was great to see. It’s our summer marquee Festival and we don’t have too many social runners. They are all here with good chances and it’s going well.
Rio Largo strikes for Comer & McDonogh
I’m delighted to win anytime in Galway and it’s probably as competitive as Cheltenham or Ascot. I’m only from down the road in Glenamaddy. It’s always special for me to win at Galway. It’s a team effort with a lot of people involved. If you don’t have the team then you don’t have the success, it’s as simple as that. Hopefully he might run here again later in the week.
Harrington & Foley hit the target with Youcrackmeup
It’s brilliant for all the Ladies. She’s been a bit of a slow learner and was very green in her first few runs. We put the blinkers on her at Roscommon and she was reluctant to leave the parade ring. The penny is only starting to drop and the handicapper has been hard enough on her. She got 11lb the last day and he’s probably going to have a say again. We gave her a break and she’s actually strengthened up a lot. This was the plan and the Ladies all had a good lunch in Morans on the weir and come here afterwards. It’s been a good day out. I don’t know if we’ll try back it up. She’s declared here on Wednesday but we’ll see how she comes out of it. She’s tough out and you never know we could convince them to keep her as a juvenile hurdler for next year. They have two nice two-year-olds at home so there is more fun to be had.
Willie doubles up in bumper
I thought Patrick was very good on him tactically. He gave him no help and it was a hell of a ride on a difficult horse. They were all queuing up behind and he just had enough kept in reserve. He’s well-bred but unfortunately we lost the mare.
