Joy for Aprils in Kilbeggan opener
She was entitled to win that off her mark so in theory the handicapper shouldn't do anything to her,. They are new owners so to start off on a winner is nice. She's handicapped on the Flat as well so she might go for a staying handicap somewhere.
Blackmore and de Bromhead strike with Somptueux
Perseverance pays off for Musical Ava
She deserves every bit of it, she's been unlucky. She was second twice last year and on her second last run she was only beaten a head at Tramore. Hopefully it's onwards and upwards from here.
Cromwell and Moore double up with Moonball
I'm delighted with that. John Mahon (one of the JRM Syndicate) is watching it from New York. He persevered with her as she had leg trouble. Johnny (Moore) got a great lead into the race. She was tough as she had every entitlement to lie down. Where we go from here I'm not sure but I'm delighted with that.
Dawson's Cottage scores for the Maddens
I'm delighted. He was unlucky to still be a maiden. He was a good second in Punchestown last year and that was decent form.
Rock Road off to a winning start for Mullins
It's great for Brian who had to lose an awful lot of weight to ride him (at 9st 12lbs). Michael Bowe recommended him to us, he was looking to move him on and thought he might do a job and he was right. He'll go to Galway now for a 0-109 handicap hurdle there and he's rated 109, hopefully he can run well. Maite who looks after him has done a lot of work with him and he seems happy out. I think he could win over hurdles as well.
Maureen's Star gets up late for McNamara
We didn't expect that to be quite honest but she had shown snippets of form. We could keep her chasing now or she could even go for a hurdle around Downpatrick in a fortnight's time. I'm pleased for the owner as he stuck with her. She's not in that long and will improve.
First winner for Aaron Fahey at 50/1 in the bumper
She has a savage pedigree as she's out of a full-sister to Our Vic. The owners (Martins To Booleigh Syndicate) would have loved to been here today but that's the way it is and it's great to have a winner. We're back racing, that's the main thing, and please God the virus stays away and we get better and stronger. Mary Lett, who had He'llberembered with me, has a share in him along with a Dublin lad and a few locals. Kilbeggan is a great track, it's fairly local to us and we've had a lot of luck here. Aaron had his first few rides here so got to know the track and likes it. It's a very proud moment when you get your son to ride a winner. He's up there grafting in the morning before he goes to Jessie (Harrington's). He hasn't been getting any outside rides. He hasn't given horses bad rides, it's just the fact that we haven't had the quality of horses in the last few years. The last winner I had was the festival in Galway (Oakly, in 2017). I had to go on Google maps to find the number one spot!
